How to Enter

Eligibility

  • The prize is divided along language categories and stories are judged within these categories.
  • The 2019 year’s prize focuses on the following languages – Ewe, Ga, Dangbe, Twi, Fante, and Dagbani.
  • Each writer can submit more than one story per language category.
  • Judging will take place if at least 2 stories are submitted per language category.
  • We only accept published and unpublished manuscripts of short stories.
  • There is no entry fee to the prize.
  • We only accept manuscripts via email.

The Entry Manuscript

  • Stories should be between 1500 and 4000 words.
  • The manuscript should be in Microsoft Word, typed in Times New Roman, size 12 font and double-spaced. It should be sent as an attachment and not in the body of the email.
  • The manuscript should include a title page, word length of the story, language chosen and personal details such as name and address.

Manuscripts should be sent to info@writeghana.org with the following as the subject – Submission (language of choice).

Timeline

  • March 15, 2019 – June 15, 2019 – Call for Submissions
  • July 15, 2019 – Extension of Deadline
  • November 2019 – Awards ceremony

Prize

The best story under each language category will be awarded 1500 Ghana Cedis each.

Winning stories will be published as an anthology in two formats.

  • An electronic book (e-book) available for download.
  • Physical copies for sale at various outlets.

Each publication will include translations in English in order to make them accessible to people who are not fluent in all the languages published.
